Thai Yoga Therapy (“Thai Massage”) is the art and practice of assisted yoga postures offered to a fully clothed recipient. Traditionally offered on a massage futon, this practice can also be offered on the massage table. This powerful bodywork has the potential to seamlessly integrate into existing massage practices or can be used as a stand-alone therapy.
Thai Yoga Therapy originated 2,500 years ago as a dynamic bodywork therapy based upon yoga and Ayurveda practices in the temples of Thailand. This therapy is rooted in the Indian healing traditions of Ayurvedic medicine.
During the course of Thai Yoga Therapy, the massage therapist guides the client through a series of yoga postures, while palming and thumbing along the body’s energy lines and pressure points.
Thai Yoga Therapy also incorporates deep stretching, rhythmic compression, soft-tissue manipulation, gentle rocking, energy balancing and acupressure. This provides a full body treatment that can help to relieve muscular tension, improve circulation, boost immunity and balance the body’s energy.
Thai Yoga Massage is performed on a mat on the floor. During Thai Yoga Massage, both the client and massage therapist are dressed in comfortable clothing, which allows ease of movement and flexibility.
After a session of Thai Yoga Therapy, clients may say that they feel refreshed, and have inner peace and a quiet mind. Clients may also say that they feel more freedom within their bodies and feel taller and more centered.
We are holding a Thai Yoga Massage class on January 17 from 9:30am-5pm. Contact us for more information about this class or to register.
