Lomi lomi is a traditional Hawaiian massage. Lomi lomi uses a combination of massage techniques, nut oils, and sometimes elements of prayer, breathing and dance to restore energy and soothe the body.
‘Lomi lomi’ translates to “rub rub” in Hawaiian, or “massage with caring hands.” This type of massage works gently yet deeply into the muscles with continuous, flowing strokes.
Lomi lomi massage addresses the body and mind as one whole being. Lomi lomi massage helps to release tension, stimulate toxins and eliminate waste, rejuvenate the body, assist in blood and lymph flow and instill peace and a sense of harmony and well-being for the client.
Lomi lomi’s energy comes from the movement of therapist to the client. The movement that is transferred to the client is much like a wave of the ocean or a tropical breeze; each movement feeds into the next.
The practitioner uses massage oil along with their forearms to create ironing, circling, sawing, and soothing massage motions. Lomi lomi is a must-have modality in the spa environment, as well as a great addition to a personal, therapeutic massage menu.
Clients may think of lomi lomi massage as their own little piece of Hawaii, picturing themselves during the massage on a sandy and serene beach.
We are holding a two-day Lomi Lomi Massage class October 20-21, 2018. Please call to register at 610-705-4401.
